DEAR NEIGHBOR,
Please join me for my 112th Town Hall meeting, which will be held
virtually at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22.
Representatives from the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) and the
Share Food Program will give presentations, and I will give an update on
the work of the House Children and Youth Committee of which I am the
minority chair.
During my time in office, I have attended many civic association
meetings and the Philadelphia Parking Authority is often mentioned. This
is a great opportunity for constituents to learn the responsibilities of
this state-related agency and to provide feedback to the PPA.
The Share Food Program is headquartered in the 194th District and, in
addition to hearing about the important work of this organization, Share
will also let friends and neighbors know how constituents can access
senior food boxes.
This will be my 20th Town Hall meeting held virtually since the pandemic
began. The online format continues to be a great way to keep in touch
with my constituents and share important information and folks from all
parts of the district are welcome to join us.
The meeting will be held over Zoom and Facebook Live [17]. To
participate through Zoom, you must register by 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22
using this link. [18] After registration, Zoom login information will be
sent.
You may also email RepDeLissio at pahouse.net and a registration link will
be sent to you. Once someone is registered, Zoom login information will
be sent.
Comments or questions can be posted live or emailed to me in advance to
RepDeLissio at pahouse.net or by leaving a message at 215-482-8726.
I hope you can join us!
SUPPORTING OUR DISTRICT WITH GRANTS
The Commonwealth Financing Authority today approved two grants, both of
which I supported during the application process, for projects that will
invest in community safety.
Lower Merion Township was awarded $200,000 from the Multimodal
Transportation Fund [19] for a streetscape improvement project along
East Levering Mill Road. The project includes pedestrian and bicycle
safety improvements on East Levering Mill Road between Conshohocken
State Road and Belmont Avenue. The project helps complete the connection
between the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, Belmont Avenue commercial area and
the Cynwyd Elementary and Bala Cynwyd Middle schools.
The improved safety plans for bicyclists and pedestrians are imperative,
as this stretch is a well-traversed section and is dangerously void of
protecting those on foot or bicycle from automobile traffic. I was
pleased to support the township in its request for funding and am eager
for the improvements that are planned.
In addition, East Falls Development Corporation was awarded $40,000 in
Greenways, Trails and Recreation funds [20] for a traffic and mobility
study along the Schuylkill River Trail, with a goal of helping to safely
connect residents and visitors to the Schuylkill River Trail and the
River Landing public greenspace.
I've seen firsthand the excitement and passion among residents and
business in the East Falls neighborhood for this new access point to the
Schuylkill River, which will serve neighbors and attract visitors. I'm
also familiar with the urgent, systemic traffic problems in East Falls,
so taking steps to meaningfully improve traffic conditions would be
transformative for our community.
PA SCORES 0 FOR FAIRNESS.
Here are my remarks on the House floor in reference to procedural moves
regarding amendments on SB 565. That bill would allow citizens to carry
a concealed weapon without a permit. These procedural machinations that
happen are an example of why I focus much work on process changes that
will ensure fairness. I have also written a number of articles which
have been published in the East Falls Now and the East Falls Local on
this subject. Without rules reforms, it doesn't matter how often good
policy is introduced, as a few positions, e.g. committee chairs,
majority leader and Speaker, will continue to control the process.
